NAMA PROPERTIES: HOW TO RENT A NAMA HOUSE
OR APARTMENT
Renting a house or apartment from the National Assets Management Agency, NAMA, follows
the same procedure as buying a property under their control.
The first step is to consult NAMA's Property Enforced listing, which was published on 28th July 2011 and has
been revised since then, with a possible update shortly to include an additional 750 houses
for sale across Ireland.
In most cases, the listing will not provide the exact address,
just a general description of the property,
as well as the type of property and the name of the
receiver.
To find out if the property is available to rent (and if so, what the monthly rent is), you
should contact the receiver designated by NAMA in relation to the property you are
interested in renting. Email the receiver with your contact details and the name of the
property that you want more information on. The receivers will then pass your details on
to the renting agent when they are appointed.
Although NAMA has a stock of over 5,000 residential properties on its books, they will only
provide details on the houses and apartments appearing on their property enforced list. Even if you strongly suspect that a particular property is available to rent, unless it appears on the property enforced list, NAMA will have no comment to make on it.
NAMA is legally obliged to obtain the best return for the taxpayer, both in terms of
renting and selling but only time will tell what prices NAMA actually achieves for its properties on
offer.
If NAMA's recently announced deferred purchase plan is not attractive to buyers, leaving the majority of their housing stock remaining unsold, other options available to NAMA include devising a rent to buy scheme and/or possibly providing for social housing needs.
