Project Management: Self Build House
Entrance Doors and House Security
Finding the right front door for your house is a balance between protection and hospitality. You need your house to be as secure as possible and at the same time you want to make your friends and visitors feel welcome as soon as they walk up the garden drive.
The latest entrance doors on the market are composed of steel reinforced fiberglass frames covered with a timber effect outer layer. These doors also feature triple glazed windows which are securely protected against external removal.
Any door is only as secure as its lock and the newest entrance doors are fitted with multipoint locking systems. These lock not only the centre but also the top and bottom of the door. The locks are designed to protect against picking and drilling, and to resist brute force entry attempts.
Top quality doors are designed with many factors involved for an exact fit. Openings for the locks of the door are cut with security in mind. The framework around the door is a tight fit to reduce as much as possible the space available to slide the slimmest tool or crowbar. The doors are hung and balanced properly and all hardware is left flush with the surrounding surfaces.
If you are replacing or fitting new doors and windows to your house, make sure they comply with the latest certification standards.
Protecting your house against criminals means viewing it as they would and asking yourself:
Would I need to create a large amount of noise to get into this house?
Are there secluded spots around the house or garden where nobody could see or hear me break a window?
Is there an obvious place where house keys could be hidden?
